Bill,

Isn't this why Intel is worried about Via? Via, SiS aim for high chipset market share (http://www.theregister.co.uk/990906-000001.html)

ÿÿÿ--- IMHO, the new founded courage to compete with Intel in chipsets is due to Intel's failure to usurp the Graphic chipset business, the failure to squash Socket7 by the end of the year 1998, and especially the failure to eliminate financially strapped, good for nothing AMD that so many forecasted.

Why Intel and Rambus are so close (http://www.theregister.co.uk/990906-000003.html)

ÿÿ--- I don't think the "$80 million and $100 million" finacial gain as the article indicated, or the slight performance advantage with the RAMBUS technology are the main reasons behind the Intel's interest in RAMBUS. I think, the control of the PC memory standards and early access to those standards ahead of the other chipset makers are the main drivers behind Intel's RAMBUS push.

1.6GHz Alpha to be fastest Quake chip on planet (http://www.theregister.co.uk/990906-000008.html)
ÿÿ --- But, ATHLON will still be the Fastest x86 Chip On The Land! (tm: Ted?)
