Just change your settings for who can "see you". Think it works the same on all IM programs. I have the version for the Mac, but it's probably the same as the others.

Choose Preferences from the Edit Menu. Then choose the Controls file. Once you're in that, you just choose who you want to "see you" on line and put them on that list and then select the "Allow only users below" bullet and click OK.

Easy enough to change the lists or the "allow" settings.
