My wife invited some of her students (she teaches at a local university in Japan) over for a bbq yesterday. Every single one of the ten had cell phones, all DoCoMo. When I whipped out my IDO/Sony handset, they all shrieked in unison, "heeeeehhhhhhh, CDMA da!" and began pining after it. They all said that at some point they'll be making the switch, but that the relatively steep price of the handsets ($125 versus almost free for the DoCoMos) is holding them back for now. Clear technolust from 19-year-old Japanese girls though--they all knew that cdma was clearer and better, and wanted to let it be known that they knew it.
