PB,
Without comment on release speed, except that the first digit will be a seven (Barrett quote at IDF), I will say that the original delay galvanized a lot of activity, and this yielded some coherent results on the upside. I will say we are very very happy with the speed that Coppermine is going to be released at.
I think when Craig Barrett said the first digit will be a seven, he'd probably just returned from Vegas, where he was flush from having a lot of luck at craps.
Seriously, I think he let the cat out of the bag a little. With all due respect to Intel's ability to characterize the bejeezus out of a new chip, using margins and cross margins of voltage and temperature, and the fact that they require very good yield for their products, I doubt like heck that the CEO would let on a clock frequency in the seven hundreds if it's going to be at the absolute minimum of that range. It would be just too close for comfort. I think it's 733 (I'm certainly not the first to think this) and that if virtually everything that can go wrong, does go wrong, it comes out at 700. If this were the AMD thread, we'd have a lottery on it. Nah, not enough range on the variable.
