Emperor Constantine adopted Christianity for the Roman Empire. It is well known that many heathen religions were incorporated into Christianity although they were used to worshiping many gods. It was acceptable that Constantine adopted many of their practices in order to keep every one happy. The Emporer was hardly a Christian, as he was baptised on his deathbed. He was able to consolidate all of these for selfish purposes. To strengthen his hold on the Roman Empire.

This was the beginnings of the Roman Catholic church ane much later protestant religions were split off from Catholicism.
It is very interesting should you decide to research the beginnings of the church. During those days, a priest had to tell the people how to interpret the Bible because being caught with one was a death sentence. This is how they were able to maintain control over Rome.
The Catholic Church claims that Peter was in Rome and was crucified and now they claim that they are able to forgive sins because Jesus once said to Peter that whatever was loosed or forgiven in Heaven would also apply to Peters Church. ( I do not believe Peter was in Rome but died in Jerusalem. As a matter of fact, I suspect that Peter and James were the two witnesses.
