MeDroogies, Thanks for the reply. I'll gladly listen to any opinion, and I understand the one you are making as I have heard it before. However, it still does not portend a 'happy ending' as far as I am concerned. It seems more like the longterm liklihood is one of failure, with venture capitalists and 'investors' only interested in the ride whilst it looks like there is someone else ready to buy the internet theme at a premium to the investment. The underlying business is still unsound ... and at the same time threatens the sound business models that do exist. Further, the internet being the medium for potential success for these companies is also their biggest threat. There is a growing capability to compare the sales price of goods at various internet vendors and come up with the cheapest sales price. Shipping tricks apart, that means there is an efficiency of price comparison which undermines any competitive element which may exist within categories of goods .... resulting in(potentially) wholesale winners and wholesale losers. This in turn results in a monopolisation by scale (something AMZN ... (Bezos ??) realises) ... which in turn results, potentially, in increased prices, as competitors fall by the wayside.
That cannot be allowed to happen ... but how will it be managed ??.
Inefficiencies in the market place are actually desirable ... but the net will take that away ... to what consequences can only be guessed. JMHO
