KZ,

He didn't say that Microsoft recommended 256 MB.

Here is his exact statement:

Windows 2000 is calling for 256 meg as the preferred minimum (http://www.siliconinvestor.com/readmsg.aspx?msgid=11168917)

Intelligent people would take that to mean that the Windows 2000 specification (written by Microsoft) says that 256M is the preferred minimum.

It was an incorrect statement by a wide margin. Windows 2000 is calling for 64 meg as the preferred minimum, according to the web site.

He made this claim without doing 3 minutes of homework to check the Microsoft site. He gave Samsung a 50% market share without a clue as to what their current market share is. He claimed that 3M chips was near the capacity of the Samsung .18 micron capabilities when the actual number was 6M chips (I haven't even brought this one up yet -- I suspect Dan has no clue what Samsung's .18 micron capacity is. He certainly didn't post any source for that claim). He made another mistake that he's apologized for. And finally, he tried to pass off absolutely 0% growth in Samsung's production throughout the year, an extremely unrealistic assumption, without stating that clearly (burying it in "growth" due to additional vendors coming aboard).

As I said, just like Sylvia Carr's article, I've never seen so many bogus or misleading statements in such a short paragraph. He was just making up stuff as he went along.

But I'll leave that message alone now. I do expect to evaluate any further statements of his with the same scrutiny that I save for the BS artists I run across in my work.

Dave
