Flatsville, there was an additional element of the Japanese business culture that the report on Japan and PCs didn't address directly--the inability of underlings to correct their superiors.

My first reaction to the report that Japan totally missed the boat on PCs was that it couldn't possibly be true because a whole industry couldn't possibly be THAT stupid. Surely, someone somewhere over there had to "get" the problem. But if those who understood the problem were underlings, perhaps the message was never offered to those making the decisions. How sad.
