Re: Too much capacity...yada...yada..

From recent McKinsey Quarterly, Meanwhile, an ambitious build-out of advanced fiber networks is increasing the telecommunications capabilities of US networks by as much as 200 times current capacity. The impending glut threatens to turn the industry's long-haul transport segment, a mainstay of the incumbents, revenues into a commodity.

From recent Barrons, But the same deep-sea pressure that's crushed calling prices has crushed the resale price of cables. Underwater bandwidth is exploding, as a result of capacity-boosting technology and proliferating cable ventures. However, the much-expected explosion in broadband demand is not within earshot.

Thread,
Well I found a couple of articles while browsing around. I think I got the links off this thread(?). Maybe more may be coming along.

I can't quite remember how long this, too much capacity spin, lasts before switching over to, explosion in bandwidth, takes over. But like I said, I've seen it happen so many times, it's getting funny. Naturally this puts a great deal of downward pressure on the backbone players stock price.
