It is a neat idea that they could be keeping things tight to more cheaply snap up the surrounding area, but it seems equally likely that a high stock price would allow them to more easily close any such deal with stock.

The problems around drilling strike me as being more of a financing issue and i can't see how that can be positively "spun".

They should issue some info about the discussions with the majors. What did they sign, what did they take, i assume with the new core storage, send half keep half etc that they could well have taken some cores for in-house work. What pisses me off about these companies is that they don't disclose, yet you can be dam sure that some people know and they will tell others. Therefor some people are trading on better info; it may not be a lot of volume but it could be easily stopped with a release.
