Yes, that is correct, and that is what they are positioning themselves for by amending/upgrading their line cards to include IP and DSL capabilities. They will not let these assets die on them without a fight, and I think that they are in a good position to extend the life cycles of these switches by making the appropriate modifications.

Having said that, there will nevertheless be that component of users who will seek more direct converged paths going forward, bypassing the end office environment altogether, and there will be some dilution to the shares currently being enjoyed by the number 5s.

Lets also keep in mind that new entrants now coming on the scene are making up the lion's share of the new purchases. If and when consolidation occurs (and it most surely will), there will be a lot of redundant assets out there with the number 5 printed on them that may very well find a place for themselves in secondary markets. Something else to keep in mind.
