Compassion is not "selfless", but a response to being made to feel bad at the sight or thought of someone else's pain. It would only be "selfless" if one felt no distress, but acted anyway....As for honor being "self- interested", it is not much more so than compassion. The main idea is to connect one's limited self to causes and values that are larger, in order to accomplish something important. Of course, it is normal to desire recognition, but the deepest form of honor seeks to be worthy, and leaves recognition to others.....
