DJ Digital Island Streaming Network -2: Begins In Oct SAN FRANCISCO (Dow Jones)--Digital Island Inc. (ISLD), RealNetworks Inc. (RNWK) and Inktomi Corp. (INKT) plan to build a global streaming media network, which will add Digital's existing e-network services. Financial terms weren't disclosed. In a press release Tuesday, Digital Island, a provider of network services for electronic business, said it will integrate RealNetworks' RealSystem G2 media delivery and Inktomi's media-caching technology. The service will be geographically aware, which will allow music and video distributors the means to control distribution of their content by country. Digital's TraceWare technology acts like "an Internet atlas" and allows media distributors to comply with the commercial terms of their distribution agreements. The first implementation of the new service will be available in October. RealNetworks provides streaming media delivery services.
