Thin Client Customers and Integrators Benefit from Data General's expertise to Design, Install and Manage a Thin Client Computing environment

Data General Corporation today announced that its Professional Services organization will present its thin client services roadmap at the Citrix iForum `99 user group conference, taking place this week in Orlando. Data General provides consultation and implementation services directly and in conjunction with its systems integrators, for a variety of thin client offerings such as Data General's TermServer-in-a-Box(TM), Microsoft's Terminal Server, and Citrix MetaFrame(TM) and WinFrame(R) server-based computing software.
Data General now offers a comprehensive services model for successful thin-client solutions. The company will also work closely with integrators to facilitate a smooth and seamless integration of its customers' projects, especially those requiring numerous and diverse technical resources, technologies, and products. This services model includes project management, assessment, design/planning, implementation, customization, and support services.
"We look forward to delivering the benefits of our comprehensive suite of packaged services for supporting thin client server computing solutions," said Vaughn Petraglia, vice president of Professional Services at Data General. "By leveraging our technical expertise and that of our business partners, customers can now deploy thin client technology quickly and easily for a maximum return on their investment."
Citrix iForum '99 is a conference designed for IT innovators to exchange ideas, successes and strategies on how server-based computing offers enterprises the computing independence to leverage existing and new IT investments to extend the reach of enterprise applications across the globe, at record speeds. The conference is a knowledge exchange on how IT investments can be strategic assets that support, influence and transform the way companies do business in a world of accelerated change.
"Data General has been at the forefront of designing unique thin client hardware solutions such as TermServer-in-a-Box(TM)," said Barry Davis, vice president of corporate alliances for Citrix. Attendees at Citrix iForum '99 can see first-hand how to simplify computing with thin client and server-based computing solutions."
"We are delighted to work with our selected integrators to deliver this unique services model to our customers," added Terry Richardson, director, U.S. Channels, at Data General. "By combining our strengths in server-based computing technologies, we are confident that we will add value to the success of our customers' thin-client computing deployments."

Thin Client Services Offered by Data General

In addition to providing services to customers and business partners using thin client technology, Data General's Professional Services provides additional consulting and deployment services roadmaps to customers and system integrators implementing Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft Exchange, and other Windows NT deployments. Data General can deliver services at every stage of the project, allowing organizations to utilize their internal staff, or have Data General Professional Services provide some or all of the components, or completely outsource the project. Services include:

--Project Management - A Data General project manager provides a comprehensive solution, including implementation, installation, and training. The project manager works closely with the client or integrator to define requirements, schedules, and project plans.

--Assessment - This is the starting point for customers planning to deploy thin client technologies, and have not completed a detailed planning and design process. A comprehensive study investigates the benefits of a thin-client approach for the customer's enterprise, and incorporates an evaluation of the customer's current environment, LAN, and commercial and custom application requirements.

--Design and Plan - This provides the resources necessary to design a thin client server environment, especially enterprise back up and recovery. Data General's proven experience with data center administration and operations, coupled with experience on variety of hardware and software options, helps clients develop an efficient back up strategy.

--Implementation - Data General provides consultation and implementation services for a variety of thin client offerings such as Data General's TermServer-in-a-Box, Microsoft's Terminal Server, and Citrix MetaFrame(TM) and WinFrame(R) server-based computing software.

--Customization - Data General provides customers with consulting services staffed with Microsoft Certified Systems Engineers (MCSEs) to customize a thin client environment. Application deployment and software customization are representative of the many consulting services available to customers.

--Networking - Data General can deliver all the network services required to implement the Thin Client solution

--Post-Deployment Support - This ongoing stage includes services such as on-site system performance analysis and security audits.
