No, I'm not saying that more people have died in the name of compassion than honor.
But, compassion can lead to unthought of consequences. I agree, the truth behind Kosovo was not compassion, that was the cover story.
And, honor has led to many wars, murders and suicides. But, it is not all of honor, but certain aspects of it that have caused this. Duty and pride are the culprits.
However, honor is what has brought the world to where it is today. It was honor that won the American Revolution, not compassion. It was honor that built Rome, not compassion.
Compassion does not build, it only patches the cracks that appear after the honorable men are done with their job. Compassion is a luxury that is built upon the honor of our fathers' blood.
Honor is not good nor bad. Compassion is not good nor bad. They are aspects of human behavior, and each has its own place. Honor is held in higher esteem by people who build, compassion is held in esteem by people who maintain.
Both are neccessary, some of us just know that you cannot maintain forever, and to thrive you must keep building. |
