Who wants consent?

The simple fear of being shot by a citizen is what keeps crime down in some states. When I was a teenager, I hung out with a less than honarable element.

In discussing crimes, my associates would not commit crimes in areas where they new that armed citizens lived or worked. But they would drive 10 hours to Chicago, and stick up a couple people on the street. People in Chicago weren't armed, unlike many of the local yuppies they could otherwise prey on.

It is also my past association with these indivduals that makes me slightly uneasy when I am at work or other areas where I cannot be armed. I know just how easy it is for a person to become a victem of crime.

So, that is why we do not need metal detectors at schools or armed guards at night clubs. If the criminal is afraid of "Crazy Jack" the nightclub owner, whipping out a .357 pocket cannon and putting a saucer sized hole in his chest, he won't rob the joint. Same strategy Reagan used against the Soviets. Worked wonders.

This is also how the individual in California ended up at the Jewish school. Every other place he wanted to shoot up was guarded.
