True, but I will say that this gun issue and some others such as the RU-486 approval etc. are cases where a special interest is overwhelming the majority opinion and that is a real problem for me, not just with guns. The reason the Ca governor passed the bill he did is because people have wanted reasonable restrictions on guns and gun shows etc for so long... and nothing, nothing from the republican leadership - enough is enough! Now you have a backlash - something I don't want either. The gun people routinely make comments like "restricting gun shows won't change anything" blah blah, but you don't understand that I don't care... I want something done, I am not satisfied with leaders that throw their hands up in apparent inability to solve problems... had we addressed this gun problem in a methodical manner earlier we would all be better off.

I predict this California law is only the beginning - the tobacco lawyers are going after gun manufacturers now, with the support of the majority I suspect. Had the gun lobby just caved on simple things like safety locks and gun shows/Brady Bill we might actually have had a reasonble solution. (I don't want to get into it with you on the Brady Bill and whether it will work - the point is it is obvious common sense to many and the gun people were against it for so long... then a whole wave of gun violence and gun supporters have lost all credibility)
