a world leader in automotive position sensor technology, has introduced a reliable, cost-effective occupant weight sensor for usein intelligent airbag control systems. Multiple CTS occupant weight sensors, incorporated within the seat structure, produce linear signal outputs that represent both the passenger's weight and physical position on the seat. The sensors allow measurement over a wide range of weights and positions. Airbag controllers utilize the sensor outputs to establish a sequence of airbag activation events. The new occupant weight sensor was developed by CTS engineers utilizing the knowledge and experience gained from more than 30 years of research, design and production of high reliability thick film
resistor products. Robust, stainless steel substrates are used in the manufacture of the sensors, making them ideal for automotive applications. Years of expertise by CTS in packaging automotive position sensors for harsh environments have been employed to ensure that the occupant weight sensor will remain stable over wide variations in temperature, moisture and vibration.
