Societies large and small, and of every degree of complexity, arising from the most diverse moral and religious backgrounds, generate prohibitions against the basic, core, anti-social activities that lead to societal disruption. It is not complicated.

At various times societies have generated laws accepting and supporting: slavery (some societies in the world still accept slavery), buying and selling women, dueling, the Crusades, denying women any property rights, prohibiting abortion, allowing abortion, forcing abortion, burning witches, and on and on.
