Ok, thanks,

I wanted to know because I've been into hand loading for years, but just recently I met up with a gunsmith, and we've been working on some hobby projects.

I wanted to make sure that we were ok, he owns a machine shop, and we are working on a more accurate semi auto sniping rifle. Not modifing semis to full auto or anything like that. But, I was worried that if we put a selector switch on for burst fire, we might be breaking the law.

The truth of the matter really is trying to get the gun to fire semi automatic. On our first try, we accidentally had a full magazine on, and the semi catch was too short, firing 10 .50 calibre rounds. We were so afraid that someone would report us that we left the range without test firing our other gun and drove home. Learned our lesson, two rounds in the magazine now.
