I just noticed this in a Samsung advertisement feature in Electronics Times, 23 August 99.

Samsung began mass production of the 72M and 144M RDRAM in January 1999, and has been supplying them to customers world-wide. This recent step [Intel validation] is significant in that it ensures adequate supplies of RDRAM from Samsung for Rambus-based systems.

Samsung plans to increase production capacity of 128/144M RDRAMs to 5 million per month during the second half of this year as the company shifts its focus from SDRAMs (synchronous DRAM) to RDRAMs. By the year 2001, the RDRAM market is expected to grow to US$13.5 billion, for a 50% share of the main memory market.
