Does exercising options affect price? We were having this
discussion the other day where I work (Lucent Technologies)because we have options that we can exercise soon. If we cash out the options, is there even a stock transaction, or are you, as the term implies, merely selling
an option (which of course is worth money in its own right if the stock is above the strike price)? So I don't know if
the NOVL guys exercising at $7-8 and making a good buck are actually depressing the stock price. And if it's like LU, there could be tax implications that makes it more attractive to buy the stock now and hold on to it even if they think it's going up in the future. The money I make on my options will be taxed as ordinary income (ouch) rather than at the capital gains rate. Nothing's free, eh?
