Well, I am all for doing something about crime, and fwiw I think this issue has a bunch of people digging their heels in on both sides, and that is not an effective means to solve the problem. After Columbine the House had a task force to discuss youth violence. The speaker put together a list of topics to discuss... there were about 13 things, media violence, parental involvement, etc. etc. and gun regulation was left off the list. I mean, come on! The net result is the anti-gun people don't trust the republicans on this issue anymore and thats why you have these extreme laws in California and Illinois. Personally I don't like too much restriction on guns either because I view it as an issue of personal freedom, although I am not a fan of guns myself.
