Millions of young people are hooked on AOL's chat rooms.
Their friends and buddies are there and the web of friends
just keeps increasing.

To these young people, the AOL content is far more
valuable than anything else on the net.

Most of these pre-teens and teens would give up almost
anything but their AOL. The $21.95 per month is an
inconsequential fee for the enjoyment they get from the
service. These chatrooms with their buddy lists have
locked them in. It makes the price and content of other
providers virtually irrelevant and meaningless. This is one reason
why after several years, MSFT, with all its financial resources,
has been unable to catch up.
