Joel, I'm still waiting on my Manual and I'm a little bullsh!t it didn't arrive today in the mail. I can't wait to call Warren Jenson at AMZN to complain and welcome him to his new position <g>.

Back to the issue at hand...though I'm hesitant to really comment before I RTFRM (the second "R" is for "revised"!), I think you question is slightly off when it comes to ARBA and CMRC. Rather than focusing on where exactly are they in the technology life cycle, I suggest we focus in on (i) what exactly is the *nature* of their respective technologies, (ii) are they proprietary in any way and if so to what extent, and (iii) how likely is it that a competitor could easily compete in this space? From what I know of their products, they do not intuitively strike me as proprietary. What they seemed to have done is provide enabling software to clients which then allows them to interact/communicate with suppliers (and I would suggest eventually customers) within a networked community.

Other than addressing my questions, I want to focus on exactly what is the nature of the network that's established.

We need to get some knowledgeable folks from the ARBA and CMRC Threads over here to add to this discussion. Anyone feel like making a house call?
