JF Quinnelly, I think CNBC simply commented on the 8+ point rise of the stock today and Kiernan showed a 1 year chart on AFFX and went, " wow ". JFQ, who do you think is buyingAFFX? -I don't see that much of a beta on the stock.Limited volatility: it's been more or less straight up since Dec 98. -so not a lot of traders in it. Is it possible that this is owned mostly by Biology PhDs, who believe in the stock; buy and hold it because they are too busy to trade?or to worry about intraweek price fluctuations? This is total speculation of course but it sort of interests me. Or, they could be Medical Care stocks afficionados who have been hammered by the likes of Aetna, Humana and other plunging health care stocks, and come to believe that getting into the cutting edge of Medicine gives them a leg up? Personally I also think there is a 1950s type of biomed-stocks tulipmania inspired by the few drammatic breakthoughs ( AMGEN comes to mind, Lipitor, ) and expect the discovery of a magic potion against old age and disease? Just wondering, TA
