Akai Electric Co has decided to change its strategy in India. It will now target the upper end of the market -- a reversal of its earlier strategy to sell its products for the mass market.

The company will launch close to 200 products in the upper-end segment by the next year. The new launches, which include three DVD players and a Plasma television set, will kick-off next month to coincide with the festival season. About 50 per cent of the annual sales for most electronic good manufacturers are done in this season.
