New System Provides Solution for America's Growing Waste Problem
Bach-Hauser to Reduce Waste to Landfills by Up to 80%, Representing a Unique Fit for the $70 Billion Environmental Industry
NIAGARA FALLS, New York--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 8, 1999-- Bach-Hauser Inc. (OTC BB:BHAS) announced on Friday that it had signed an exclusive 25-year licensing agreement with TCR Environmental Corp. of Ontario, Canada, for the worldwide rights (excluding Canada) to its proprietary Total Recycling System©. The system, already in use in Canada, solves many of the most serious problems commonly associated with waste management. The total recycling solution can help solve the growing waste problem in the United States by reducing landfill usage by up to 80%.
``According to most industry reports, approximately 70% of all landfills serving North America are already full. Soon we will run out of space for our municipal, commercial, institutional and industrial waste,' says Gord Carless, International Project Manager of Bach-Hauser Inc. ``The process that Bach-Hauser owns the worldwide rights to has already received the Solid Waste Association of North America's award for the highest waste diversion rate in the industry. Just as important, though, is the fact that we are also able to convert the vast majority of the solid waste we receive into marketable commodities. In other words, by applying our system in the U.S., the industry could practically eliminate the need for additional landfills.'
The waste management industry has been slow to change and adapt. Most conventional waste disposal systems that include recycling programs require multiple pick-up vehicles and fairly strict compliance from households. This inefficient system requires each household to separate trash from certain types of recyclables. The recyclables then must be put into a ``blue box' for special pick up. Municipalities using these types of programs have been only able to reach 20-22% diversion rate on average. But, with Bach-Hauser's Total Recycling System©, up to 80% of all trash can be diverted from the landfills.
The Total Recycling System© applies a two-bag system. It differs from conventional waste management and recycling methods in that the custom-built recovery facility receives mixed loads of municipal, commercial and institutional waste, contained in both blue and black bags. Blue bags are filled with recyclable items, which can be identified, recovered and resold. Black bags contain compostables that would otherwise be lost to a landfill, but can now be reused after opening and sorting of the bags. The market for the disposal of organic and non-organic waste is enormous and growing.
``When municipalities learn that by using our system, they can lower their collection and landfill costs, while at the same time increasing employment in their area and transforming trash into a commodity with a market value, they are understandably very excited. And the real beauty of this system is that it's so easy to use. Households just put all of their paper, glass and plastic into blue bags and everything else into black bags,' adds Carless. ``It's really that easy.'
There is a growing need for environmentally responsible solutions to waste disposal. In the U.S., government mandates to handle waste in a more responsible and efficient manner have created a $70 billion North America environmental industry. Waste Management Inc. (NYSE:WMI - news) alone has over a $13 billion market capitalization. Internationally, the market potential is probably even greater.
Other major players in the waste management services industry include Allied Waste Industries (NYSE:AW - news), Republic Services (NYSE:RSG - news), Safety-Kleen Corp. (NYSE:SK - news) and Tetra Tech (Nasdaq:WATR - news).
``While force and legislation may work in other parts of the world, it is practically impossible to make freedom-loving Americans change against their will. Our system works so well because it doesn't really require any major changes in behavior or attitude. Just two trash bags instead of one,' declares Carless. ``Recycling has never been so easy or efficient.'
