The RBOC's now know they have competition with the cable companies. They do want to generate revenue but they are begining to realize (perhaps too slowly) that reveneue generation shouldn't come from bandwidth or "lines".. but from services. The cable model has been like this from the begining - you get basic, expanded basic, pay movies, and pay per view. Pretty soon you'll be able to get telephony on cable as well as gaming, and you can already get ISP access...all SERVICEs which you pay the cable company extra for. Notice that the cable comany never charges you for your connection! The RBOC's still don't really know how to migrate to a services model.. but the point is, that the more services they can get you to purchase over a single DSL connection the more revenue they will generate....... at a lower cost of support!!!
