Thought this might be of interest to the thread. This is why (at least in terms of ATM), PMC is in a very enviable position in terms of board real estate. PMC controls the phy and is working its way up. Notice, that although the switching layer is obviously very important, its the lower layers that are the most prevalent in a system.
