Its about time someone starts to mention another market and product line of this "one product company". Andy, Have you heard of a product called "snappy" made by PLAY. It sold well over a million units its first year at a retail price of $199 . This product allows the user to attach a module to the printer port on a PC, and then conect the RCA jacks from a VCR or a Camera and capture still images for emails , to print to high res. color printers, for internet, etc.
C-Cube has a single chip encoding device and reference design kit, so any one can make a module that , like the "snappy"product, can plug into your computer and you can then capture 30 fps video and audio, from your camcorder or VCR, compress, it using the c-cube chip in MPEG 1, and store it to disc, burn a CD, or send it over the internet to a friend. (All for a retail price of under $300).
If Snappy can do it for $200 for only still images, wouldn't you pay an extra $100 to also do Video!! (The MPEG Module, also performs the Snappy like, "capture" fuction as well)
The great thing about the c-cube chip is that it is in high volume production now as the same silicon that is used by the mutiple chip set users in the high end broadcast sector. ( 1 chip for MPEG 1 multiple chips 7 needed for MPEG 2)
This will be a hot product. Just as a survey of the techies following their favorate stock, Get on this thread and let me know if you would buy such a unit from your local electronics store. (You know George Clinton will buy it so he can show himself in action on his web page.) (How about David N., having video clips on his "Wall") K |
