I honestly don't know much about the genetic argument. And to be plain, it doesn't really affect my thinking. Homosexuality could be genetic, or not, or it could have a variable genetic component ... but that's just gravy to somebody who realizes he's gay. The gay folk I've talked to are gay; how they ended up that way is less important to them than what they will do with/about it. For most, this means brave a disapproving society and seek partners openly, or do it on the sly. For some, the shame (especially for devout Jews or Christians who are gay - don't laugh; I've known some) drives them to celibacy.
Sexuality exists in a continuum. I doubt many people are strictly 100% pure homo or hetero. Somewhere in the middle lies bisexuality, and somewhere way off to one side is the whole sheep dealie <big grin>. It doesn't surprise me that folks change ... some practitioners of heterosex go to homosex, and vice versa. What combination of inclination and opportunity is involved is probably pretty good beer talk.
