Yes they may.. but they also are single purpose lines and expose you to the dark side of cable. It's about eating your own young before someone does it for you. T lost significant market share when William (WilTel) launched their Frame Relay service...T had the technology but didn't want to launch it because it would reduce the number of leased lines and impact revenue. Well, when their business customers started buying frame relay T took a while to react and thus WCOM was born... .out of nothing!

Now, here we are again. T is buying their way into the local exchange via cable. If the RBOC's ignore T - a differentiated competitor they will lose their customers and they will get NO phone lines as T will be offering telephone over cable...along with their high speed internet connection and video... SOme customers just might tell their local carrier - bye bye...
