Fair enough! However, do you see what I mean? It's like the old adage about walking a mile in another man's shoes.... If one is trying to reason with someone who disagrees strongly--not make points, mind you, reason--then one has to try to see why the other person feels so sure of his or her position. My uncle Raymond, for example, is one of the most deeply good people I have ever known, but he cannot comprehend homosexuality. He has known and cared about people who are homosexual and visited several when they were dying of AIDS, yet it is utterly incomprehensible to him how they could be homosexual, so any discussion about whether same sex partners should have the kind of medical coverage that spouses do is fruitless. He cannot imagine being homosexual.
