I am not an Optical Scientist, although I do understand much of the optical/electrical world - so I cannot comment on how 'breakthrough' this technology is. What I can say with almost certainty is this: at the very earliest, it looks like LUMM generates real commercial revenues (after betas and extensive testing) maybe in Q4 2000/Q1 2001. So thats at least 1 - 1 1/2 years away. At that point, they ship one product to a few customers. Meanwhile, JDSU is shipping 100s of products to 100s of customers and has 100s more in development.
Puhleeeeaaase people - get a grip! Is Juniper going to put CSCO out of biz? Is Red Hat going to put MSFT out of biz? If you constantly need something to worry about, go on Greenspan watch. JDSU? - no worries.

PS - This doesn't mean I buy a gorilla and go to sleep. Far from it. My research is exhaustively ongoing. But I do know enough (especially from watching CSCO over the years) to not get worried over point product 'new technology' offerings from no-revenue companies.
