Professor,

Watch the rhetoric coming out of the APEC summit in New Zealand next week.

I have it on good knowledge that Y2K is supposed to comprise part of Clinton's address there, encouraging nations to pay attention to the issue. It may sound meaningless, but believe it or not, these people will pay more attention if it is seen as being important enough to comprise part of Clinton's speech.

Additionally, there are supposed to be statements from various countries as to their readiness and the contingency plans they have taken.

I think the language and level of attention and confidence building that are displayed will set the tone for trading in Asian markets for the rest of the year.

Regards,

Ron
