the topic of discussion is now... hopefully animal rights, my favorite

I know, it's been a heck of a ride the past few days! We aren't on animal rights at the moment, except in the context of whether beastiality should be socially accepted or condemned, and whether the sheep (we limited it to that mostly for the time being) are exploited or favored. Whichever, it's presumably less traumatic for them than being turned into mutton.

Do you happen to know if any non-christian societies hold this taboo? Example,
african tribes... do they frown on homosexuality?

Great minds run in the same gutter. <g> I've been asking the same question myself, at least twice, and did a short bit of web research which turned up little of use. I wish we had some definitive information.

No offense here. I think virtually everyone who is willing to be honest about the origins of Christianity recognizes that it was one of many cults looking for adherents around that time. As to whether the taboo against homosexuality was any part of its positioning for favorable recognition by the general population (one way to describe it!) I have no idea.
