These people may know something but they sure aren't expressing it. They're confused. They have no focus. They don't have a solution. They have no conviction about where it's all going.

The only possible solution is WDM and that is hopelessly expensive. It is this fact which confounds and makes them tentative about committing resources. They are waiting for someone else to take the risk and get established so that they can imitate. They would take the lead, but they know WDM can't make it and they are totally correct. So the result is logjam.

Broadband is stifled. It can never work because physics of optics won't let it unless the world's people want to pay exorbitant rates for it. If that was the case, it won't be coming any time soon and all this posturing that was seen by execs today, is not worth a Continental. Is it true though that optic communication is doomed to the expensive set?

I have argued extensively on the Silkroad thread that there is another solution. One that solves all the petty problems and thankfully eliminates useless baggage like OXCs. GBLX has no where to go unless SR takes them there. That goes double for Att and anyone trying to economically address wide throughput of broadband. Since SR is being avoided at all costs GBLX and many other companies are nothing more than operating bankruptcies. LVLT knows this and is trying to hatch the SR technology.

The proper venue for such an effort is none other than the entire resources of Lucent because the practical side of SR needs a great deal of intense work. That won't happen as long as LU can waltz to the bull market band and ignore the technological realities of the sham pseudo solution they sell. That goes double for NT and the other frauds. They've been talking and testing WDM for 4 years. Where's the beef?

It's in expensive land and won't be coming out any time soon. You won't hear any exec admit this if they understand its ultimate truth. You don't come to understand this until you understand the complexity of trying to manage but two colors. SR only needs one. Eventually there will be only one wire needed between points so the argument about ring and star and mesh is silly or ill-defined. So are all the other issues mentioned in the article. This is what has a bearish flavor to it.
