I view UUnets ownership as a distinct positive. The money UUnet makes on the stock is really not all that important as it is not operating income to Worldcom and is just extra cash. Nobody at UUnet really cares so much about their investment gain relative to risking their core business on M40's. The network scientists at UUnet don't get paid out on UUnet's investment in Juniper and WCOM stock doesn't get anything added to its multiple based on non-operating income so its no different than raising cheap capital in the public markets. UUNET's sponsorship is a key reason JNPR is worth $10b but UUNET realizes it doesn't have a choice if it wants to run the most efficient, least costly network it can. Juniper needs UUNET and UUNET needs Juniper.
