<What would happen if say.... China opts for nearly all cdma? Oh my. I smell cooking bread!> Ramsey never liked me going on about politics in relation to CDMA in general and Qualcomm in particular. Well, it's front and centre now.

Clinton has got a chance tomorrow to show Jiang Zemin that the USA and the rest of the world under the auspices of the UN won't take any crap by way of repression of 'provinces' or independent countries. The world is not such a well-defined place, but Taiwan very much falls into the independent country category though both Taiwan and PRC would like the two to be joined.

If Clinton leaves East Timor in the murderous hands of Indonesia, you can be sure that China is going to play a much stronger hand in WTO and Taiwan and every other way.

Australia has loaded ships with armoured vehicles and they are going to Timor. Indonesia is in political disarray and it appears there has been a military coup.

There isn't going to be much CDMA in Indonesia, so you can count that out. There might not be much in China either. Or Taiwan. There could be some VERY big messes to see in the year 2000.

If Clinton backs Australia [and the pathetic lap dogs in the NZ government] and faces down the generals in Indonesia over independent Timor, then China will gulp and think twice about getting foolish over Taiwan.

China needs international trade and does not want to be engulfed in war with the UN. Clinton has got an easy chance to stabilize things by taking the right actions over Timor.

We should know tomorrow whether he will inhale or not! Will he take a deep breath and be strong or will he fold and be weak? Will Xena Albright draw strength from the clean NZ air and beautiful weather she is enjoying and face down the evil thugs? Or will she slink away?

You smell cooking bread? We see cooking flesh!

Maurice

PS: Remember how Hitler took a little at a time until somebody [New Zealand was first to declare war against Germany, but the USA finally joined in after a year or two - perhaps only prompted by Japan's attack] stopped them doing any more? Remember "Peace in our time". People like that understand only a bop on the nose. They will not stop until they are stopped. Let's all give Indonesia a bop on the nose. Quickly, so it need only be a small bop and the rest of the thugs around the world get the message.
