Nobody thought IBM was that dumb, either, at the time. Still, as I said, it's a hypothesis, nothing more. I tend to think the truth resides somewhere in the middle, that is, embedded technology is one aspect of it, and the sheer difficulty of scaling the process up is the other. Difficulty ='s cost, therefore the incumbent "monopoly's" viewpoint might very well be the embedded wins unless there's a significant price advantage?

This is oft-times why the itty bitty companies get such a jump on their monolithic competitors. The small, quick, unhampered company can move, and move quickly once it's reached a certain point, whereas the large one, having the corporate mass of a super-tanker, can't adjust as quickly. Kind'a sort'a evolutionary theory(is it proper to use that term these days in light of Kansas? ;-) ) as applied to the business jungle. And this rule hasn't been repealed, even in the quick footed high tech business jungle. I can point to numerous examples of hero's yesterday, goats today that litter history. This is not to say Sony's in any danger of becoming one of these, as their pipeline of products is huge, and diverse, whereas a lot of those past hero's were one hit wonders. It's just to say Sony, et.al., may have entrenched special interests. But once again, this is imho.
Ultimately, at this point, it all comes down to who can deliver the goods.

Anyway, it's a new day! Let's see how VLNC goes during it....
