I am hearing a rumour of EDGE2 that can transmit at up to 2Mbps. Now we all know that if this is true there will be many operators who may not go the cdma route for 3G services.

One of the interesting things about the cdmaONE upgrade path to 3G is that 1xrtt is supposed to allow a doubling of the voice capacity (as well as data rates upto 144kbps). Is there an equivalent gain in EDGE or some of the other GSM upgrades?
