They are putting a good spin on this, and I actually think it is a good move (and probably the first of several to fill in DELL's technology portfolio) - but it also means that their last strategy, which was to build this through partnerships and not acquisition, fell apart with the DG acquisition by EMC.

And as far as DELL breaking new ground - lets keep in mind that this is territory owned by IBM, CPQ and to some extent EMC, who have had the capability Lambert is talking about (and a good SAN strategy) for several years. Those companies are selling integrated low cost SANs today and both IBM and CPQ also have the design and services to make the sales go.

DELL has been aiming at this market for a year and so far has not gotten traction. This is one place where the market leaders are growing faster than DELL, and DELL can not let that happen for long.
