The memory stick move is perplexing to me.
It was so unnecessary and will not set Sony apart from the field.
The natural migration would have been floppy to CF for the Mavica line.
I think that is painfully obvious even to a casual observer.


I agree. How about another possibility? Sony thought it would give them some differentiation, ie, "look here are 150 different cameras all with CF, dont buy them, buy ours that has got memory stick which is much better than CF?"
So they are switching the issue away from the camera, which maybe is difficult to distinguish from all the others out there, to the memory.
Even if only say 5% or 10%% of consumers bought that argument, maybe thats a higher proportion than would otherwise buy their camera if it was just 'one of the crowd'?
