Sat on a bench. For quite a while, actually. What first caught my eye was a large, grumpy black and white monkey way up at the top of a tree piece right by the glass, who looked like iy wanted to sleep, while a small golden lion tamarind was trying to get its attention by doing stuff like attempting grooming. The monkey kept pushing the tamarind away, and making faces, and shaking its head, and the tamarind kept coming back, and I wanted to see what happened. It reminded me of myself trying to take a nap when the kids were little. Finally the tamarind gave up, and went away. Then I noticed the baby tamarinds, one was being carried by mama and one by an aunt or uncle, and then the one that wasn't being carried by mama was abandoned at the top of a tree piece, and was screaming. Finally mama left the baby she was carrying with another relative, and went and got the baby. And then the sloth got active. I swear, it took maybe 3 minutes to get from the far right corner of the cage to the near left. Greased lightning for a sloth. It was all very interesting. A crowd was watching. Sort of like primate TV.
It does smell in there, but I kinda like it. Sorta musky, like the undertones in expensive perfume. Now, the elephant house *stinks*, and as for the otters, well . . . . |
