Universal server came out in September. It looks like a breakthrough application to me. Hasn't oracle been trying to develop this, Oracle 8 ,for four years? Maybe in June?

Looks like a lot of strategic alliances are being formed with informix around the superserver concept. As well a number of new blue chip clients for web related activity.

I would suspect they haven't really shut down their marketing of standard products, rather the markets for these products is sagging world wide.

Informix is from my reading of their published articles gearing up an international sales force around superserver which will involve startup marketing costs.

Value line has shaved their earnings estimate from $1 to 85 cents for 97. First quarter sales were off by about 20%. This earnings surprise is not unusual in the current environment and stage of the business cycle.

I think superserver has tremendous web potential. I also think informix is doing the right thing by committing marketing resources to it. Superserver goes way beyond text and numbers.

If you look at the long term weekly price trajectory of informix it looks like it is starting to base in the 8 dollar region in the fourth wave,i.e. completing a phase of growth.

I suspect their next up phase product evolution will be along the lines of the superserver concept.

Sort term things look terrible but I think management is betting long term on superserver over the next three years.

By the way apple had a new product innovation that rapidly penetrated its market only to be stymed long term by its refusal to open its software architecture to developers( dumb paranoid management).

I think informix has just brought out its ground breaking product ahead of the competition. It follows that they should develop the marketing forces. I don't think they have had time to screw up from a management perspective. At 8 the price is right!
