Oracle's performance has been good for the last two quarters in terms of revenue and profit growth -- very strong in both regards as compared to respective prior year quarters. Oracle's recent conference call was very bullish in my opinion, as well. European activity has strengthened; this was a problem in the prior quarter you may recall.

What I see for Informix is declining revenue, which is very serious and worse, a loss. This is much different than the Oracle situation. I see Informix losing market share, and this will be very difficult to overcome.

I suggest that Phil White spend more time running the business and less time crying about the programmers that defected to Oracle.

Take a look at previous viable players in the database business:

* Ingress -- remember them (acquired by CA) but not viable anymore
* Sybase -- not very viable now
* Informix -- have seen better days, and are now in decline

My money is on Oracle; they have the best management, developers, and sales/marketing people.
