<<When your group meets, are there ever discussions about the possibility that one may change?>>

There is limited discussion about change because we realize that changing from gay to straight is rare. The one program that has been discussed is Exodus which claims to convert gays to straight. However they offer no statistical proof that it works. No success rates are kept for the initial program and no follow up (how many stay straight after 5 years) statistics are available.

We have one gay man that tried to convert but he ended up attempting suicide. So he gave that idea up. I also know another gay man that is in the process of trying to convert.

<<Do you discuss with them the matter of the high death toll among young gay men? Obviously AIDS is a concern, but suicide rates are high as are deaths from alcoholism and drug addiction.>>

Yes we do especially suicides among teens. We try to contact high schools in the area and establish safe zones for gay youths. A safe zone is a place that a gay youth can go anonymously to meet with other gays and counselors to discuss gay issues or personal issues. We feel if we can give these kids an outlet they will be less likely to attempt suicide. We had one 21 year old gay man from our group commit suicide.

AIDS, alcoholism and drugs are not discussed that much.
