john,

i tried the following on my hp calc.....
$1 grows to:

yr 1 15% 1 + .15 = 1.15
yr 2 -5% 1.15 - .0575 = 1.0925
yr 3 11% 1.0925 + .12018 = 1.21268

pv = $1
fv = $1.21268
n = 3
% = 6.638%

this matches your example.....but i appreciate you and the others bearing with me......

$1 grows to:

1987 4.7% 1.047
1988 16.2% 1.2166
1989 31.4% 1.59863
1990 -3.3% 1.54588
1991 30.2% 2.01273
1992 7.4% 2.16167
1993 9.9% 2.37568
1994 1.2% 2.40419
1995 37.4% 3.30335
1996 22.84% 4.05784

pv = $1
fv = $4.05784
n = 10
% = 15.03486

what are your thoughts? is this coincidence? thanks for your input...
