Boy, you don't leave much hope, do you? But thanks for the report -- you are certainly a lot closer to the situation than we are. I hadn't understood the perspective of resettling non-Timorese in East Timor over the years. Is there also an element of ethnic conflict, as in Kosovo, or is it mainly economic and land issues?

I understand that most of the professional class is non-East Timorese--that, for example, there are only three East Timorese doctors (or surgeons?) in the whole country, and that the same is true of many other professions, so that if the non-East Timorese do leave there will be few professionally educated and trained people to fill the voids. Can you verify this?

I read that Australia is indeed thinking of sending in troops. Do you know anything more about this?
